THE TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC
Publisher/Manufacturer: HarperChildren's Audio
Who says all the music in the house has to be by Raffi once you have a
baby? Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead made a sweet, sincere, and
lyric recording of the childhood classic, the Teddy Bear's Picnic,
before his death, and you and the baby are bound to enjoy it. The music
starts with a banjo and guitar melody. Garcia soon joins in, crooning
about the surprise that awaits if you go down in the woods today . . .
" for every bear that ever was will gather there." The board book is a
nice bonus, with the text of the song and lots of warm illustrations of
teddy bears (including one that really looks like Jerry Garcia).
This
tape won't dominate the household listening, either, in a scant four
minutes or so it's six o'clock and the "mommies and daddies will take
them home to bed/Because they're tired little teddy bears." Another
Garcia/Whatley song and book, There Ain't No Bugs on Me, has recently
been released in hard back and tape format---but wait for the
inevitable board book version. The whole musical collaboration for kids
by Garcia and Grisman is found on the 1993 release, Not for Kids Only.
